Commissions

A painting
made for you,
from the beginning.

Each commissioned work is a collaboration — rooted in your vision, mediated with our team, and realized by Harriette's hand. We take on a limited number of commissions at a time to ensure every project receives the care it deserves.

Acrylic on canvas  ·  Starting at $10,000

How it works

  1. Reach Out

Email us at support@harriettegermain.com with your vision — what you're imagining, your ideal canvas size, and any color palette preferences. There are no wrong answers. A feeling, a photograph, or a single word is a perfectly fine place to start.

  2. We Listen

We read every inquiry with care and respond with a personalized quote tailored to your project.

  3. Deposit & Kickoff

Once you're happy with your quote, a non-refundable deposit secures your place and begins the work.

  4. Share Your Space

After your deposit is received, we'll ask for a few photos of the room where your piece will live. This gives Harriette a deeper understanding of your environment — the light, the scale, the surroundings — so she can paint your vision in a way that truly belongs there.

  5. Creation & Check-ins

While your piece is being created, we'll regularly check in with verbal updates so you always know where things stand. Commissions take on average 3 months from start to completion.

  6. The Reveal

Once your piece is complete, we'll send you photos and a video of the finished painting before it ships — so you can see it in full before it ever leaves our hands.

  7. Final Payment & Shipping

Your remaining balance is due before the piece ships. Shipping is invoiced separately, but all charges are communicated upfront — no surprises.

Transparent from the start

All quotes are custom, based on size, complexity, and scope. Every commission begins at $10,000.

We want this process to feel accessible. Choose the payment structure that works best for you — and if you have questions, simply ask when you reach out.

Option One

Pay in Full

Pay your total upfront before work begins. Simple, complete, and the preferred option for clients who want everything settled from day one.

Option Two

Two Installments

A 50% non-refundable deposit to start, with the remaining 50% due before your piece ships.

Option Three

Three Installments

Split across three monthly payments — one-third to begin, one-third the following month, and the final third before your piece ships.

Delivered worldwide

We ship commissions to any destination in the world. Shipping costs vary by canvas size and location and are invoiced separately — but you will receive a full shipping quote before anything is confirmed.

You will never receive an unexpected charge. Every cost is discussed and agreed upon before it is incurred.

A note on refunds

We are a small, intentional team. Every commission we accept receives our full attention, and we put significant work into each project from the very first conversation.

Because commissions are created specifically for you, we are unable to offer refunds once a deposit has been made. We do not offer revisions on finished work. This is why the consultation phase matters so much — we ask that you communicate your vision fully and openly from the very beginning, and we promise to listen with the same care. We are here to help you get there before work begins.

What you should know

Intellectual Property — Harriette retains the right to photograph and share all commissioned works for portfolio, archival, and promotional purposes. If you require confidentiality regarding your commission, please note this in your inquiry and we will discuss accommodations.

Caring for Your Piece — Acrylic on canvas is durable and long-lasting when properly maintained. Keep your work out of direct sunlight and away from extreme humidity. To clean, gently dust with a soft, dry cloth — never use chemical cleaners. We're happy to answer any care questions after delivery.

Common questions

What if I'm not sure what I want?

That is completely fine. Send us whatever you have — a feeling, a room, a photograph, a single color. We will help you find your direction from there. Harriette is happy to offer guidance before any commitment is made.

Will prints of my commissioned piece ever be sold?

No. A commissioned work is made for you and you alone. We will never sell prints or reproductions of a piece created for a private client — that would undermine the very nature of what you're purchasing. Part of what you're investing in is exclusivity, and we take that seriously.

Does my commission come with a Certificate of Authenticity?

Yes. Every commissioned work comes with a signed Certificate of Authenticity from Harriette. The certificate documents the title, medium, dimensions, and year of completion — confirming this piece was created exclusively for you.

Will my piece be shared publicly?

Harriette retains the right to photograph and share commissioned works for portfolio and promotional purposes — this is standard practice for working artists. If you prefer your commission remain private, simply let us know in your inquiry and we will discuss accommodations.

Can I commission a piece as a gift?

Yes. If you're commissioning on behalf of someone else, just let us know upfront — it changes a few things about the consultation process and how we gather information about the space and vision. We're happy to make it work.

Do you work with interior designers or art consultants?

Yes. If you're representing a client or working within a larger design project, reach out and we'll tailor the conversation accordingly.

What happens if my piece is damaged during shipping?

We take exceptional care in packaging and work only with experienced fine art shippers. In the event of damage in transit, please document it immediately upon delivery and contact us — we will work with you and the shipper to find a resolution.

Ready to begin?

Write to us with your vision, your ideal canvas size, and any color notes you have in mind. We'll take it from there.
